Education Requirement: No Formal Education Required, Cicerone Certification preferred or willing to obtain certification within the first year.

Work Experience: Five years minimum working in the food or beverage industry and at least two years managing a beer or wine focused establishment.

Compensation: $21-25 per hour + Tips on shifts worked solo, Paid Time Off, Paid Sick Leave, Medical insurance, a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan after one year, monthly beer benefits, and annual merchandise gift card

Schedule: The Sunnyland (James St.) Taproom Manager is expected to work full time managing the daily operations of Kulshan’s Sunnyland location. Hours will vary depending on the time of year, administrative workload, event schedule, and taproom shift coverage needs. Hours can be flexed in any given week to allow time for both administrative tasks and taproom support, but the expectation is to work 20 hours on the floor and 20 hours administrative time. The Taproom Manager is expected to have a regular presence in the taproom and work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as required to support taproom and event operations.

Description: The Sunnyland (James St) Taproom Manager oversees daily operations at Kulshan Brewing’s Sunnyland taproom, ensuring excellent customer experiences, efficient service, and a well-supported team. This hands-on leadership role includes hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff, enforcing policies, and addressing operational or personnel issues. The manager maintains POS systems, manages vendor relationships, oversees inventory and merchandising, and helps resolve challenges. They also plan and execute events, programming, and promotions to engage customers and drive taproom sales, while collaborating with the administrative team on strategic planning and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities:  

The Sunnyland Taproom Manager job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

Staff Management

  • Hire, onboard, and train taproom staff in alignment with company values and customer service standards.

  • Lead, coach, and evaluate staff performance; address disciplinary issues as needed.

  • Work alongside staff on the floor to support operations during busy times and model excellent service.

  • Create and manage staff schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage, balanced workloads, and timely communication of updates or changes.

  • Develop, post, and adjust staff schedules to meet operational needs while supporting employee availability and compliance with labor benchmarks.

  • Oversee all scheduling functions, including shift assignments, coverage coordination, and proactive planning for events, vacations, and busy periods.

  • Promote staff development through team-building and beer education

  • Serve as a communication bridge between staff and management, ensuring clarity on policies, events, promotions, and operational updates.

  • Serve as a Kulshan brand ambassador at community events and in daily interactions with customers.

Administrative & Operational Oversight

  • Monitor taproom performance metrics (sales, labor, inventory) and implement strategic actions to improve operations and profitability.

  • Maintain budgets, forecast expenses, and manage labor effectively.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal liquor laws, health codes, and safety regulations.

  • Maintain accurate POS systems and inventory - conduct regular audits to prevent loss 

  • Manage vendor relationships for quality products, reliable supply, and favorable pricing.

  • Develop, document, and enforce standard operating procedures to ensure operational consistency.

  • Respond professionally to customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints.

  • Participate in strategic planning and recommend improvements to enhance taproom operations, customer experience, and engagement.

  • Set and adjust taproom hours based on seasonality, staffing, and customer demand.

  • Oversee daily opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and overall taproom cleanliness and organization.

  • Maintain accurate inventory across all products and track usage to reduce waste.

  • Regularly monitor and audit cash and inventory controls to ensure theft or loss is not occurring, taking appropriate action if it is.

  • Ensure draft equipment, coolers, and other systems are operational; troubleshoot basic issues.

  • Manage food truck scheduling and ensure up-to-date insurance documentation.

  • Lead emergency response within the taproom to ensure customer and staff safety. 

Taproom Event Operations

  • Participate in creative brainstorming sessions to develop engaging events, promotions, and programs to promote the taproom

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Event Managers to design and implement promotional campaigns that drive customer engagement and taproom sales.

  • Translate creative ideas into actionable plans, coordinating logistics, staffing, and resources to ensure successful execution.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of events and promotions, gathering sales data and feedback to inform future planning.

  • Continuously propose new concepts to enhance the customer experience and maintain a dynamic, inviting taproom environment.

  • Manage staffing levels to execute events successfully, including private events and reservations.

  • Oversee and participate in event setup and cleanup, ensuring all spaces are prepared, organized, and restored efficiently for smooth operations.
